About Me:

My name is Jonathan Fisher. I’m a 20-year-old jazz musician at Central Washington University, and I am majoring in music composition. I love to write and perform music, as well as teach theory, jazz, and piano technique to students of every level.

I began taking piano lessons at age 9 in a private studio. After a while, I grew to dislike piano lessons; the traditional beginner format just didn’t work for me. So, after dabbling in the violin and tuba (among other things), I began piano lessons with a new teacher, Laura Dunham—or as I know her, Ms. Laura. She allowed me the flexibility to explore the world of playing by ear, and encouraged me to perform pieces that were far beyond what the textbook said I should attempt. That gave me the freedom and the motivation to start falling in love with music within myself, and for myself.

Now, in school, I involve myself in many of the ensembles and clubs. I am the current Jazz I pianist (which also includes keyboardist/organist), recruited into Dr. Keith Karns’ traveling combo, and an officer on the Jazz Education Network Club, AKA the JEN Club. I have been repeatedly asked to participate in some of the finest combo groupings on campus and have been requested and recommended by peers, students, and mentors alike. I have also just begun my composition degree, where I hope to continue developing the skills to write, create, arrange, and perform a wide variety of fantastic music.

Outside of university, I have years of experience with both individual and group teaching. I have taught private theory and jazz piano lessons at the college level on numerous occasions, have worked with local high schools, and have even traveled in order to provide master clinics and masterclasses with private piano studios. I also frequently gig in the broader Central and Western Washington area, where I’ve worked with several popular performers, one of which being Andrew Sumabat.

‍ ‍I created Jonathan Fisher Studio so that I could showcase my art more effectively and professionally. My goal is to create an interface where students, colleagues, and clients alike can all see what I have to offer, so I can eventually grow my career to help other aspiring musicians become more successful. To me, music isn’t merely a business; it’s a lifestyle.
